This is not an easy question to answer as there are a lot of factors that determine what size and type will work best for your home.
For example, how much do you want to spend on the unit?
Do you need it now or can you submit your installation request and wait until you take delivery?
What's your climate like?
What sort of space do come lights bulbs cover in square feet?
How old is my current system?
These are just some of the questions that might come into play.
That being said, here are four more things to keep in mind:
- Room Size - The first thing I would recommend doing before purchasing an A/C unit is measuring the room.
- Number of people that usually will be in the room.
- Number of electronics.
- The room is exposed to the sun?
This is a nice formula to keep in mind before making any big A/C purchases, you'll need around 600 BTU per square meter of room space.
And add to this another 500 BTU for each person when it gets crowded, 400 BTU for any electronic devices like laptops or 600 BTU for each TVs in the same room with the AC unit.
Finally an extra 600 if exposed directly to sunlight!
The size and type will depend greatly on the BTU's that you'll need.
